Lincolnshire insect-farming and biotech pioneer recognised for “Closing the Food Loop” – upcycling food waste at commercial scale in the 2026 Global Good Awards shortlist
Fairman Knight & Sons (FKS) is thrilled to announce it has been shortlisted for the Global Good Awards 2026, reaching the finals in the Circular Economy category for its entry, “Closing the Food Loop: UK’s first commercial Food Waste Upcycling Insect Farming Business.”
Following a judging day hosted by the Awards’ finance category sponsors, Trowers & Hamlins, the Global Good Awards panel met in person to debate the shortlisted entries before confirming this year’s finalists. The Awards team described the standard of entries in 2026 as “exceptional”, with judges repeatedly returning to submissions due to the strength of work being delivered across sustainability.
Strategically based in Holbeach, the UK Food Valley, FKS uses black soldier fly biology to transform local food waste into high-value outputs, including insect protein for animal and pet nutrition, bio-oil, and frass and chitin for soil health and other applications. The business is setting national standards as the UK’s largest operational facility, and is scaling production with a focus on measurable climate gains, supply chain resilience, and transparent engagement with partners.

Winners will be announced at the Global Good Awards ceremony at BMA House, London, on Thursday, 24th September.
